My best guess ... the government aren't serious about tackling this issue (The No 1 concern of the UK public). Which hasn't been particularly sensible as it has increased support for UKIP which inadvertently led them to grudgingly give us a referendum. If main stream parties don't respond to the...
Latest net Migration figures.
Net migration at 323,000
Net migration was at the second highest level for any 12-month period since comparable records began, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Net migration of EU citizens to the UK in the year was 172,000
Theresa May, who is...
I support balanced controlled immigration. You are right to say it is extremely hard to do background checks on many of theses refugees/migrants which is probably one reason why our government has resisted attempts to take an EU imposed set quota from those arriving in Europe (mainly young men)...
In the UK true so why add to the risk? The last Gentleman I quoted Chaired the Cobra Intelligence Group, responsible for coordinating the work of the national intelligence agencies, including MI5 and MI6, during the July 2005 London bombings, the Madrid and Bali attacks. He seems to think this is...
Exactly. Because our borders are only as secure as the weakest link in the external borders of the EU as long as all EU citizens have a right to come here. EU citizens face less rigorous border checks and it is extremely difficult (virtually impossible?) for us to deny entry.
The million plus...
We need someone to spell out some of the big issues in a straight forward balanced way using beautiful British common sense. Starting with the Euro crisis ..
*Strong Language*
You were claiming it amplified OUR voice not the collective voices of 28 states. It would only do this if our voice was identical to all other nations which it never is. It amplifies a collective diluted negotiated view which could be far removed from our initial position. eg 27 other EU...
How is our message amplified? I could equally claim the UK position is diminished, subsumed within an EU voice. For instance do you know for a fact that we didn't call for more severe actions but were limited to agreeing to a consensus EU position?
Some EU countries may want fewer sanctions...
Wading through the hyperbole/appeal to authority the only specific claim that they make to support their view is
"Inside it, we can continue to collaborate closely with our European allies, just as we did when we helped to force the Iranians to the negotiating table through EU-wide sanctions...
To quote a different government minister.. 'The former head of Interpol says the EU’s internal borders policy is “like hanging a sign welcoming terrorists to Europe” .... perhaps IDS has a point?
The SNP will probably exploit a Brexit vote to call for a referendum but it does not follow that they would then vote to leave the UK.
The collapse in Oil revenues have severely undermined their economic arguments and retaining or re applying for EU membership is not a straightforward or...
Time for a rethink?
Those who want to remain in the EU:
Prime Minister David Cameron
Chancellor George Osborne
Home Secretary Theresa May
Business Secretary Sajid Javid
Welsh Secretary Stephen Crabb
International Development Secretary Justine Greening
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt

Loving the Napoleonic War analysis.
This thread shows why the Swiss system is one to be admired. We should have numerous referendums to stimulate debate and argument on substantial issues rather than who's getting voted out on BB or X factor.
That way lies madness ... I quite like Gove but loathe Galloway although he's mellowed a bit in recent years. Both are in team leave which is very confusing!
