91! Really! The start of the indurain monotony?
Also, the year epo kicked in - lemond was so strong the year before, came into the 91 tour fitter and was getting dropped by domestiques on the climbs.
Some of this stems from the singular focus of UK cycling in the tour and the Olympics.
Yes the tour is the biggest but the Italians need giro winners and the Spanish need vuelta winners. Likewise the Dutch/Belgians are mad for the classics.
Any other grand tour is usually am afterthought for...
I think that would have the opposite effect. At least with 9 man teams there are more riders not trying to fight it out at the front - with 6 then you'd maybe have 30 teams all trying to get someone near the front.
Also, the UCI need to protect their beloved WT team status - its already...
I think sky wanted Simon but not Adam, they wanted to stick together and Simon said something along the lines of, "why would I go to sky and spend every race grinding myself on the front for someone else all day"
The tri spokes are notoriously twitchy (though I haven't ridden one), which is why most went for something much lower profile. I think dumoulin had a 50mm rim on - very small by modern TT standards. The new, wider rim shapes are much better in crosswinds but the gusting is a real problem -...
Their live coverage is pretty good but, perhaps, the highlights package is trying to grab the "general" viewer where euros port are a little more specialist.
Notice I said "level" not "clean"!!
The Russian situation is obviously huge but they have made little impact on cycling recently, probably because they were less able to do it. Cycling now has the most rigorous testing and it isn't only done by the national agencies. Cycling is slightly...
Sort of. The French are really pissed off that they got cleaned up after 98 (Festina scandal) and doping became a criminal offence in France a while after. Meanwhile, Lance, Italians, Spaniards were living it up off EPO, HGH, testosterone and the like.
They have a point really but now I don't...
Very true. Some of the language describing yesterday's incident will have to be toned down a little.
I think Froome will be super motivated after yesterday so I'm going for Froome, Dumoulin, Martin.
I can see where it comes from but it is pretty disproportionate given that Contador...
Pinot has not looked in the kind of shape to do that so I think its likely to be a Quintana victory after much fireworks on the climb.
Only other option is if a break goes with someone half decent in (Rui Costa etc) and they let the gap get too big before Ventoux.
Currently 70km/h crosswinds so could be brutal - especially as all the teams know it's coming and will be jostling for position.
Unfortunately that same wind could mean no Ventoux! 110km/h gusts on ventoux today!
