Saw this at the Harold Pinter Theatre a few months ago and I agree with your friends. Well worth seeing if you are a Kinks fan. Get lost in the Sixties for an hour or so.
Interesting that you've never been but can state that watching a DVD is more enjoyable than live music, even from a tribute band. I think you are wrong, live music beats DVDs and CDs hands down IMO and these guys are good.

I saw them at Worthing Assembly Hall in 2003. As an ardent early Floyd fan. I thought they were pretty good
