Fair enough, but as someone else pointed out they were not, in the main, ridiculed. Also, back then, covers were a part of many bands early days.

You could say Beastie Boys. Whilst they were not particularly unoriginal or shite the band were dismissed in my corners as a fratty cartoon band at the start. They later became very respected musicians/artists. Talk Talk is an excellent call though.
