I agree that before 76 we weren't a proper football club. Thanks to Palace we became one.
That said, we weren't really 'proper' even then.
Arguably we aren't even now. Compared with the likes of ManU, Spurs and Arsenal, we aren't proper.

Precisely. There is a massive difference between a club one may dislike, and a rival. I dislike ManU and Chelsea a great deal, moreso than Palace, rather like I dislike vomiting and torrential diarrhoea more than I dislike nausea. But none are necessarily rivals.
