What a fantastic post.
I think I am not quite with you ideologically on your last point, but my reaction is probably purely emotional. I happily cede that success should be based on merit and not because of birthright or birthplace, so guess I need to stew on this one for a bit.
You really think I'm going to have the time to write out a full solution here? You're only ever going to get broad statements on a chatroom site aren't you? Be fair and admit that.
My point is that this debate is typical of many debates in this country. It gets polarised and is based on crooked...
Short-term, I want to see more time spent on integration. Long-term I want to see more spent on improving education and training opportunities for young people in this country so we can build a world-class workforce.
By the way, you'll love this fella (incase you missed him last night)...
I think that as you said, we will all keep going round in circles. And, as another poster has said, let's wait 12 months and see what impact the latest additions to our country have.
I just don't want this country rushing into an introvert and isolated knee jerk reaction based upon gut feel. I...
You've presented me with two news reports that are 5 years old and contain some unsubstantiated data. The one that does, even notes that it believe immigrants helped grow the economy by £6billion in the previous year - although again, it fails to note the evidence supporting these claims.
The...
It doesn't put any particular strain on public services. There is a tonne of data to disprove this that has been widely published. We must knock this myth on the head.
I fail to see the link between these appalling crimes and immigration policy as a whole. I can see the link between these crimes and controlling the movement of criminals. Innocent people should still be allowed to go about their business in the EU. That's all you are advocating isn't it?
You haven't read his post at all (or you've chosen to deliberately ignore what Guinness Boy is saying) and instead thrown out another wild statement without backing it up whatsoever. Yours is the politics of hate. You bang on about the 'sharp end' and have a crack at Guinness Boy for mentioning...
I don't believe we'd ever see 10 million unemployed, but I do know that our view of the future and how we need to prepare for it has changed. the old world view that the state would look after you has gone. So how do we create a secure future for people in our society as it ages? Through a...
Apologies. I didn't mean to suggest that you were saying "shut the borders", but some on here have. That was not my intention.
I agree there are people that are concerned, and I'm sure you'll agree that the answer lies in helping to address these concerns without shying away from the fact that...
Justifiable concerns, and much more like the debate we should be having. Again, I don't see the answer to this having anything to do with immigration or emigration.
I understand the point you make here about communities affected by immigration, but I think the error is in seeing unnecessary restrictions immigration as the answer to the problem. I think the debate shifts to how we can ensure that communities can integrate more effectively. That's different...
