I came to the same conclusion with FT. Schweppes is my regular now – having experimented with some supermarket ones, they can be a little bit flat. Got a bottle of Fifty Pounds the other day, which claims to be the 'smoothest gin ever'.
Without looking, I think I took a picture when I was going through an 'orange with gin' phase. Pink grapefruit is nice with it top. But to be honest, there is plenty of flavour to have it on its own.

This might be controversial, but not only do I not like Plymouth Gin, but I'm not too fussed by Fever Tree tonic any more. I've had all sorts of cheapo ones and the G&T tastes just as good...

There's a Shoreham-by-Sea gin called Slake (actually there are two), but it's not easy to get hold off (although I'm not sure if they sell it online.) Also might be worth giving Tom Cat a go – that's a 'Sussex' gin, apparently.
