Apart from the two goalkeepers, I'd have had Leonard as one of the front runners TBH. Weir seemed to be heading in the right direction last season, but this season has been a disaster - and of course Moran was expected to be a much greater success than he has been.
Outside bet? - if Rangers...
Seventeen actually - there's Weir and Hinchy too (full list here https://www.northstandchat.com/threads/2023-24-loanee-tracker-thread.402563/ ).
Yes, of course most loanees (and most youth players for that matter) will be sold or released - we all know and understand that's how it works. But a...
Weir has had two excellent loans in League1, at Cambridge and Morecambe. As documented on the Loanee Tracker thread though, he's had very little game time this season, first at Blackpool and latterly at Port Vale. Spong is not one of ours any more - he was released last summer.
If anything that's a bit disappointing - from the way he has flourished on loan I would have hoped for at least the Championship next season - but on loan, still with a view to a place at Brighton.
At the very least I would have hoped for him to have another pre-season here, before any final...
They might be - but would we be? Rushworth, maybe, he's a bit older, about the same age as Verbruggen - but a 19 year old with a 50% clean sheet rate for a relegation-fighting team in the Championship? I'd be very disappointed if we sold Beadle.
Edit: Yes, realise you were talking about Leonard...
Preston, Plymouth and Swansea, eh? I wonder if - or when - we'll move up to the level of lending youngsters to lower level PL teams. Leonard from League1 to the PL might be too big a jump, but what about our two Championship GKs? - PL loans for them next (unless we want them back home to replace...
Not corrected. Just further research found further information. Cheers.
Not sure Northampton is the best idea - I'd have preferred somewhere else. Nothing against Northampton but going to another club would have presented a new set of character-building challenges and experiences...
This article suggests that a new deal has been agreed - the impression given is that this is more than just a one year extension of his existing contract. Would make sense - he seems to be attracting a lot of interest...
My point entirely. If we are sure we don't want him long term, surely the only sensible option would be to sell him for what we can get now. Loaning him out prior to him walking on a free next year makes no sense at all.
If that's correct, there's no point in loaning him out again. It'll just mean another talented youngster we've developed through our academy leaving for free this time next year.
Hurrah! Another Scottish Wonder-Kid - it's far too long since we had the last one! But I won't....errmmm....Harp on about it............
Seriously though, welcome to Brighton, and hope you do well. I'd love to see an occasional teenager in our first team (if they're good enough they're old...
