Think that is less than what we were paid for him anyway. Wasn't it an initial £8 million rising to £10 million. Sell on clause would only be on the profit usually.
I'd be very surprised if Leicester accepted this deal even with Ulloa being annoyed. Why would you sell a player to a relegation...
I'm sure they are not gambling but I am also sure they only want the right players for the club. We are not going to sign someone for the sake of it.
Anyway, unless you are willing to pay over the odds, most deals don't get sorted until the last few days of the window.
Not quite sure what Hull are doing. Why sell your best player to a team that could still end up being a relegation rival? Almost like they are accepting relegation.
Sorry, didn't mean it to come across like that. It was certainly not an expected signing (as so many of ours aren't) but I trust Hughton, Winstanley and co to get it right.
Good luck with preparing for your new baby!
Terrible attitude in recent years and has played four games in the Greek League since April. Signing him and selling Van Arnholt suggests Sunderland are accepting they are likely to go down.
It's simple. We're probably not going to be giving him much experience. Barring possible cup games (and even then if Rosenior is fit it might not be guaranteed), he will not play for us unless there are a number of injuries across the rest of the season. So, it is much better to loan out Hunt...
I was just thinking exactly the same. Cannot think of one striker who has signed for another club who was a realistic signing and one I would have wanted.
Is this seriously still being debated? I genuinely can't believe anyone is suggesting we should sell one of our best players to get some money but put promotion at risk. As you say, I'm sure Bloom won't risk promotion to cash in on Stephens now.
Do you mean like Ridgewell and Knockaert who we signed in the first week of January last year? In trying to make a point there is no point making up stuff.
However, we're hardly short of players at the moment. The argument that we need another striker to back up Baldock for the season is valid...
Fair point. There surely must be another Premier League club who'd be interested though, unless they want him to stay in the South East and that then gives us a better chance.
I think we'll probably end up with an overseas signing that nobody has mentioned, as often happens. A slight gamble but cheaper than taking a gamble on someone from the lower leagues here. Very similar to signing Skalak last January.
If he was able to play a bit further forward e.g. the No. 10 role in some games where Baldock is unavailable or Hughton chooses a slightly different formation, he'd be an amazing signing. As one of a central midfield two, as good as he is, I'm not sure we need him unless we are selling Stephens...
I think that will be interesting next season if we go up. Do we go with the system that has got us up or do we play three in midfield. Certainly for games against the big teams I can't see us playing our current system. Surely we will be more defensive. For this season, I understand why Hughton...
Rosenior is back up to Bruno when he is fit again. He's a brilliant option. Marshall is a decent player at this level but we have better now, especially in his main position.
