    Bottom line seems to be - a touch on the ball is enough to prevent it being a penalty except when it isn't. Give the same scenario to two different refs in two different matches and you'll get two different decisions. The Doku decision is proof of that.

    So every time a goalkeeper comes out in a hurry and gets a slight touch on the ball but brings the player down in the process it's a penalty? We know that's not the case - we've seen in dozens of times this season.

    But on the Doku pen the actual VAR ref (not a pundit) clearly says "he definitely touched the ball" when justifying why it wasn't a foul. He presumably knows the rules. And that was a highly dangerous challenge. Again, I can absolutely see why the pen was given yesterday but we've been told many...

    I may be confusing Webb and Gallagher on Ref Watch but here's what Webb said so judge for yourself. For me that one is a stone cold 100% penalty and I could not believe it wasn't given because Doku touched the ball.

    Yep. As per when we were all told by Howard Webb that this wasn't a penalty because he touched the ball first. To be honest it was a clumsy challenge by Lamptey and I can see why it was given but they change the rules according to which team is appealing.

    Not that it would have made much difference, but definitely not a pen. Got a touch of the ball and as we have been told consistently by the refs this season that means no pen.
