I'd say the simple solution is for the club to admit they screwed up instead of blaming football fans doing what football fans do-using the system available to them. Then move on and make sure they don't screw up again.
I think that the club, in this case at least, were probably badgered into making their ridiculous statement by one or two people-now they've stopped screaming for policemen.

The club has to shoulder all of the blame for this shit storm.
They saw what happened for the Barnet game but chose to offer 10 points for a 10 pound ticket. Apart from the small-ish crowd who can be seen at every game, home and away, there are the next tier who go to loads of away games and...
What you need to do then is attend more of your away games at The Amex to be in with a shout for your home games just like southern based fans have had to trek all over for games. It is a different animal this season-to get to the 'glamour' games up North and elsewhere means people need to be...
The Tuesday night debacle was a one off and of the club's own making. They need to take it on the chin this time but they won't because Barber's ego won't allow it.
We have all learned from it and it won't happen again (probably), sadly depriving photo opportunities for the twitterati on here.
Let's see how many of the "I really, really, really wanted to go on Tuesday night" crowd are at Burnley away. Or at some other less glamorous fixture in the third round of the FA Cup watching another Brighton Reserves squad.
Or send in a doctor's note saying you couldn't attend for medical reasons.
What next, write in to Barber when you miss a home game for whatever reason? Oooo, sorry Paul, couldn't make it to The Amex yesterday, had a bit of an emergency. Sorry about that-promise I will be there next home game.
So they will arbitrarily decide that non-attendance was points harvesting? They created this shit storm and now many legitimate no shows (as there are for every game, home or away) will be reviewed. Are they going to start penalising people who miss home games too?
