The Lewes Road bus lane/traffic congestion

No there isn't. I don't own a car now and the reason for that is because my circumstances have changed. I no longer have to ferry car fulls of kids around. (Or their equipment which for my teenage son was a drum kit). Also my Dad and stepmother, who lived in a remote cottage in Somerset miles...

The Lewes Road bus lane/traffic congestion

As did the country railways when people switched to lorries for freight and then cars for personal transport. I'm not denying the validity of your argument, but is it right to 'punish' people who live in these areas today? Telling the people of West Grinstead for example that they can't use cars...

The Lewes Road bus lane/traffic congestion

See post #70 (Husty asked the same question). You're lucky I saw your question, I opened this thread by accident as I'd given up on it as it had ceased to become a discussion about transport and had become another tedious "Cyclists are worse than drivers! No they're not!" binfest.

The Lewes Road bus lane/traffic congestion

Just out of interest I know that were a lot of problems when the Saltdean/A259 bus lane was initially opened, photos in the Argus of traffic queues etc. Has that now sorted itself out or is it still bad for people?

Now THAT is the nub. What constitutes 'unnecessary'? I'll supply a starter definition: It's a car journey, to and from a destination, that you could complete by another means without loss of efficiency and within the same time frame.

The Lewes Road bus lane/traffic congestion

I was waiting for someone to ask that. She's some sort of Liaison Officer. Part of her job entails visiting the other campuses (Brighton Uni has five including Eastbourne and Hastings) and also going to other organisations, schools and the Council. She could not visit all these locations by...

The Lewes Road bus lane/traffic congestion

Well it's a sensible answer because you agree with it, but fair enough, I take your point and I too have no sympathy with people who could easily switch to bus or bike but choose not to. Also for the sake of argument let's assume that's the majority of road users. Are they going to change their...

The Lewes Road bus lane/traffic congestion

Well if 'the public' are the activist-types who usually respond to these proposals then yes, it will be wrecked. (Apparently 'the public' are also in favour of a bus lane up St James' Street!). In some ways, no, sorry, in many ways those complaining about 'The Greens' in general and this scheme...

The Lewes Road bus lane/traffic congestion

You think so? They'll improve the Vogue Gyratory so that cars can flow more freely through it? I'll believe it when I see it as every change over the last twenty years has been geared for the opposite effect. All the talk I've heard is to make it 'easier for pedestrians' and as a pedestrian who...

The Lewes Road bus lane/traffic congestion

Don't have to use it myself (I don't own a car or a bike and usually walk in Brighton) but a friend of ours lives just off Lewes Road near the Bugle and is based at Brighton University. Her commute has trebled in time, so she now goes the long way and uses Ditchling Road. She's not alone, I'm...
