I think that’s an overly harsh view. You can’t be certain that he IS happy to play a bit part. He might believe that he’s good enough for the number one spot, we just don’t know. As others have said though, and if you listen to Ben Foster’s podcast too, being a back-up goalkeeper is a specialist...

I did wonder where he based himself when he was down in Brighton. Makes sense rather than splashing out for hotels each week.

Interestingly, or not, he still lives in the North East. His kids go to the same school as mine and I see him a fair bit on the school run. He must only do a max of 2-3 days a week training!
