I'm not sure of our electricity rate, but our gas rate is now about 7p, Last winter it was about 10.25p. Whilst that's quite a reduction, we all got £400 back from the government last winter that we'll not be getting this year.

Hit 15.5 degrees at 8:40 this morning, peaked at 17.7 degrees just after 4pm and has just started to head down now. I think I may well give it a quick blast - the forecast suggests we may not have too many cold days nights in October after tonight.

17.6 degrees here as I type. Last night bottomed out at 18.1 degrees around 8am before the sun hit and started warming things up a bit. The heating thermostat is set to 13 degrees which is essentially turning it off. It's going to be a chilly night, but I don't think it will get quite that low.

I head out around 6:30 for the first dog walk of the day. This morning, even though it was still dark, I could see it was very misty on the Downs, so I went with three, yes three, layers. T-shirt, hoody and a thin jacket. For 45 minutes of the 50-minute walk, I had the two outer layers tied...

Just as that Finnish pipeline has been, it seems, sabotaged and gas wholesale prices have soared.

I'm "shorts on" all year round at home. I walk the dog pre-dawn on the coldest winter days in shorts. As long as my top half is well-wrapped, I don't seem to feel the cold through my legs. But the house still felt a bit chilly for the first time this morning. We didn't have the heating on though!

Chilly morning here, with the Hive app saying it's currently 17.3 degrees indoors. Looking back at gas usage suggests September 30th was the first time the radiators fired up last year. It's getting close...
