I meant to ask about that, but I'd forgotten. I didn't go to to the game in the end and watched in the pub, but I thought it certainly sounded like he was being booed when he had the ball in early passages of play.
With respect, the FA should tell Rodriguez to **** off and take his punishment then.
I'm not sure a law court would accept "Can we re-schedule please as I'm on holiday then" from a defendant.
I'm assuming the suggestion is that, in France, either:
i) a pinched nose and a waft of the hand is considered to be a racist insult, but in the UK it's not.
or
ii) telling someone they smell is considered racist in France but in the UK it's not.
What's remarkable is that many West Brom fans are "playing the Cyrille Regis card", to use language that they seem to understand.
Cyrille Regis, and other trailblazing black footballers, were not able to state that they believed they had been racially abused. They had no choice but to turn the...
I understand English very well, but I still mis-hear things, and I'm not on a football pitch playing in a Premier League game in front of a fervent home crowd.
(Note: I'm not suggesting I believe Bong did mis-hear, just that it is perfectly possible)
The fact is that unless the FA have some evidence that is unavailable to the rest of us, no one has any idea. People can think what they like, but they won't actually know. In other words: they are guessing.
If Bong did mis-hear:
a) The only person who knows that will be Rodriguez, as Bong...
Firstly I'm quoting this as it was in the new user review queue and is now a page or two back and will be missed by many.
Secondly, you're the first West Brom fan I've seen that has, at least, considered there is a third option beyond:
1. Rodriguez racially abused Bong.
2. Bong has fabricated...
Why would a football club sack, ie release on a free, a highly valuable asset?
No organisation are compelled to sack someone, they’ll do so if it makes sense for them to do so. It doesn’t make sense for a Premier League football club to sack a player worth, at a guess, £20m.
I daresay that if the positions were reversed and an Albion player had been charged with the same, some fans would be rallying behind him as well - “he’s a top bloke who has never shown to have this in him before” etc.
I'm not sure this one is done yet nearly two weeks on: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/06/roberto-firmino-liverpool-everton-mason-holgate
Football supporters, and clubs for that matter, are broadly the same.
If the situation were reversed (ie complaint raised, and no result from the FA yet)...
1. Albion fans would be defending our player with "He's not that sort of player - he's never shown that side before."
2. Some Albion...
None of the camera angles to date seem to give any clues as to what, if anything, Rodriguez said and if any TV company had such an angle, I'm sure they'd have shown it by now.
It doesn't though. Here are two examples where no action is taken against Rodriguez but does not mean Bong made it up...
1. No proof can be found that proves Rodriguez said what Bong is alleging, therefore no action can be taken. It doesn't mean Bong made it up.
2. Proof can be found that...
CLUB STATEMENT: FA INVESTIGATION
Brighton & Hove Albion defender Gaetan Bong has requested that The Football Association fully investigate his allegation against West Bromwich Albion’s Jay Rodriguez.
Albion left-back Bong reported Rodriguez to match official Martin Atkinson, for a verbal...
Agreed. From what I've seen, it's going to be difficult for any proof to be found to support Bong's claims. And if there's no proof, I am assuming there'll be no action taken, unless the gesture itself is deemed as worthy of retribution.
And if Bong's claim is not upheld, then he's going to...
