It's always better to bounce an old thread because then you get all the previous opinions of your fellow supporters as context for your new point. 'Has the rumour gone dead?' bouncing the old thread not only informs people like myself there was a rumour, you'll also be addressing all the people...

Why wouldn't you just reply to that thread if you knew it existed? Very odd.
