e-bikes definitely the way. Hills not an issue, and you can go fully waterproofed up. OK, not great 100% of the time, but for those times, you use the car. Done around 3,000 miles on journeys to and from work now - all of which would previously have been in the car.

I can see the reasoning behind this - especially as my Dad was blind. But one of the biggest polluters in our towns and countryside is road noise pollution - which can ruin walks and sitting in gardens, so I was looking forward to this reducing / disappearing.
It's very difficult to balance...
Been looking at electric cars. Just discovered you can tow or put a towbar based bike rack on them (one or two expensive ones you can - but not many).
Dropped the idea for now.
We've now got a fleet of BMWi3s at work. They are incredibly nippy, with a G-force acceleration - but take a bit of getting used to. I don't like not having a handbrake, and coming up behind bikes and walkers scares them!
