The key is certainty as soon as possible as to what league we are in next season.
The nightmare financially would be Premier League expense levels ticking on until late in the year, and then being relegated, so no PL level income for the 20/21 season which could help with the maasive 19/20...
- It seems to that clubs should be allowed to furlough staff - but the PL should commit to paying all the furlough money back to the country out of the first TV income payment.
- Furloughing players is a non-starter as an idea.
- The PL needs to do a deal with the TV companies so that any...
Not correct.
If a club breaks a contract, the players can walk away. The club does not retain the registration.
I suspect PL players have enough of a rainy day fund to sit it out until they get a multi-million signing on fee elsewhere.
And...
With respect to the government furlough scheme...
Good solution.
The PL also need to sort out a deal with Sky so money doesn't have to be paid back ( or at least paid back over time ).
Certainty needs to be established asap with regard to next season ( not start date, obviously ). This means clubs knowing which league they will be in by the...
It seems people expect Tony to take the whole financial hit, which given what we owe him, doesn't sit well with me.
If we had been making a profit ( like Liverpool ) then perhaps that would be different.
The PL needs to do a deal to give TV companies extra games next season as compensation, instead of paying back money, otherwise the whole house of cards falls.
Footballers could be furloughed - if they agree.
No one can be forced into furlough anyway, though most would lose their jobs if they didn't agree.
Insisting a footballer is furloughed ( if the scheme even allows the employer to insist? ) would result in a break of contract and the player...
The why is....
... any contracted player who is furloughed can walk away from their contract. So assets on the balance sheet disappear overnight. Forget amortization of transfer fees, it is all gone in 1 hit. And say goodbye to any transfer income for that player.
For example, is it worth...
You can't furlough the players, because they are assets on the balance sheet, and if you break their contracts and let them walk away, then your accounts are screwed. Forget amortization, they are gone in 1 hit.
Of course you don't pay them appearance money or goal bonuses etc. but you can't...
Well that would basically be the players subsidising the owner's loss. Better they donate to where it is needed more ?
Clearly we all owe a lot to Tony, though.
Tricky one.
The Albion have been hinting that this is being seriously considered as well.
Some hard decisions will have to be made soon, unless certainty over next season can be established sooner rather than later.
Liverpool's next multi-million buy is going to be a bit awkward isn't it ?
Perhaps clubs should be banned from signing players until they pay back furlough money to the country ?
