Did they close HD Steele garage/petrol station because of Teville Gate development or was it because they wanted to move out of the main town. Became a car selling lot but not sure if it still is as since mum passed away 7 years ago this weekend dont go down there very often
I remember my mum used to buy her toilet rolls from a company there who supplied cleaning products to the licensed and catering trade. They also had a branch in Hollingdean Brighton
I thought there was only 1 Morrisons the rest are express and the Morrisons at what was Caffyns is probably just over 5 mins walk from the station but not from Teville gate
They could do with one or two of the big stores being interested like Tesco/Sainsbury M & S etc but then the car park is to be demolishd for the flats so parking will be a problem. This then leaves specialist shops and how long can they survive.
With the latest on social housing is it not likely that the flats will be developed in the main for the council/housing associations to use at what was called council houses yesteryear. Is there not adequate housing available through out the area to meet the needs of the private housing...
Flats with shops and restaurants under them but without wishing to sound snobby who would want to open a high or reasonable class restaurant underneath social housing. I think the most likely is social housing with Iceland, Poundland and the like under them very much like the Broadfield...
There were shops from The Central, as it was., right down to the join with Chapel Road when Railway Approach was open but I cant for the life of me think of what other shops were there other than those mentioned. I think possibly a builders merchants and wholesale newspaper depot.
We lived in South Farm Rd for a time and my wifes brother went to St Andrews and used to walk down Congreve and Northcourt Road to our flat so I assumed it was off of Congreve.
A google search shows that the origin of the name is unknown but a local historian thinks it came from Tevill Common which was branched on 2 sides by the stream.
Here is the search find
The name Teville is of unknown origin, although according to local historian Robert Elleray, the stream is...
The Teville stream runs underground the length of Teville Road but as TLO says it doesnt indicate where the name comes from or why it is pronounced as in we not as in egg. Teville Road was dug up completely in early 60s and my dad was working at The Clifton doing some plumbing and took me to...
Also Greens the Pork Butchers. Prior to decimalisation Pops sold a cup of tea for 5d and a cheese roll for 7d but when decimalisation came about it became 5p and 7p doubling in price.
It annoys me to hear a radio station like Splash as it was, calling it Teville as in egg Gate. My middle son had a girlfriend who moved to Worthing and a friend of hers was a presenter on Splash and she used to argue that the pronunciation was definitely Teville as in egg and me being a...
Many suggestions have been put forward and short of demolishing it all and starting again I would suggest a P & R to ease the parking in the town by making some of the roads around by what was The Odeon no vehicle access during the day and deliveries not made between 10am and 5pm. As far as...
