I remember sitting in front of the TV all day as a young lad watching Peter May and Colin Cowdrey get that 411 but didnt think it was at Edgbaston but I wouldnt argue.
I do not think that as yet any new batsmen brought in this year have shown that they can make the step up to Test cricket. Perhaps I set my standards too high but failure is not acceptable.
There are exception s to every rule. Didnt we bring back Brian Close when he was about 45 years old? David Shepherd who hadnt played for 2 years but they were exceptions when we were in desperate need. Incidentally both proved their worth that class is forever form is temporary.
Not writing him off but it is a concern because he is 30 years old and not getting younger. Had he been 25 it would have given him more time to blend in but at his age he has to hit the ground running for us to reap the benefit.
