Watneys used to do a bitter that was in a keg but had to stand as per real ale WEBSTERS but I think hey stopped it when Watneys brewery ceased to exist in the late 80s
A practice frowned upon by Camra is regularly used in pubs to preserve real ales and allow them to be kept longer is to put a co2 line into the top of the cask if laid down on a stillage and about 1-2lb psi left going into it. It doesnt affect the dispense or taste but keeps the beer longer...
It has got to be a very busy pub to be able to keep 8 real ales on tap and in good order. It is said that you shouldnt have a real ale if you cant sell a firkin, 9 gals,in 2 - 3 days.
The major problem at The Amex is that they cannot rack the Harveys due to time space quantity etc so it is brightened with finings at the brewery and then served through a syphon pump unlike most pubs that use a tap and the pipe connected to it. The Harveys at The Amex always tastes flat...
No its isnt ' a tad overated' it is very overated and like you I think London Pride is far superior. The Harveys sold at The Amex IMHO is the worst possible and a bad advert even for Harveys.
