Presumably, their government took a strong anti-communist stance in the 50s so they were deemed a useful ally by the US. Also, a pretty handy location for bases etc.

I can't confidently speak for the other nationalities you referenced but in the case of the Vietnamese, that's bollocks. For starters, the vast majority of the population was born long after the American war ended so it's a historical fight that doesn't figure in their day to day lives...

I know what you mean. Obviously, the focus of this thread is the Ukrainians. But whatever is said here has zero effect anyway so what's the issue if someone broadens the discussion? If you disagree with what's said, challenge it.
But when Swansman is speaking generally, why take it personally? As someone who cares, you should be sympathetic to his view.

The world is a little reluctant to start WW3, I'd imagine. Which is of course what Putin draws his confidence from. I'm not sure what the answer is but foreign powers sending troops in could be cataclysmic.
