U7 & U8 level even! Most clubs have too many kids wanting to play but only so many places in a team. Lot of clubs end up with 2 teams in each age level due to sheer numbers of kids but that can only be done before season starts really. Sadly then teenage years hit which leads to most kids...

Not exactly helpful for this situation but West Hove Dynamos do a Saturday morning drop in session in Wish Park which sounds ideal apart from the location. If the players are any good they get asked to train with the teams and then get to join the team proper.
