Nope I'm going to deny that.
I would hope that Bloom and Barber would continue to run this club with sound financial footing in mind should we ever go up rather than spinning millions on agents and mercenaries safe in the knowledge we have a net to drop back into.
I've said it before: that...
Honestly I used to like Newcastle but their fans have just been offensively smug all pre-season. It's like they forgot that their team was utter shit-house last season.
Of the three that came down its only Villa I'd like to see do well. Just not at our expense.
Ok so to sum up my thoughts on this whole debacle:
Negatives:
We've been mugged.
Positives:
We have money left for other targets.
We've avoided signing a money driven tosser.
Norwich have, allegedly, paid more than us.
General musings:
What is it about other fans from other clubs, oh lets say...
You can sign Premier League players without being mugged off by parasitic agents and mercenaries. See: Leicester.
Parachute payments were not intended to enable clubs to yoyo back and forth between the leagues; but they are and this is now the landscape we find ourselves unable to compete in.
The trouble with the Premier League is that it does not differentiate between outstanding and mediocre. Both ends of the spectrum are financially rewarded.
The knock-on is that players and agents don't really have to worry. The most bang average player can have a dire season, get relegated and...
The rules need changing because they reward failure. I will continue to say this whether we reach the 'hallowed heights' of the Premier League or not. Failure should not be rewarded. What sort of lesson is that? Why should overspending in one league, getting relegated and then overspending more...
For what it's worth I've always been against parachute payments. They reward utter, miserable, embarrassing, dismal, woeful, awful, dire, disastrous, shocking, laughable failure.
Which is just bullshit. Frankly.
Trouble is, and this is something I try not to think about too much because I fear it may actually kill my love for the game, by going for it and getting promoted we'll find ourselves in an entirely new landscape where we're even more likely to be fleeced by clubs / agents / players.
Come on man; if he's gone to Norwich its because they have more money than us and are prepared to pay it. It's hardly as if we've dropped the sodding ball.
Had this discussion with a bloke on Twitter not long ago. Hemed was a 17 goal striker last season. Knocky chipped in. As did Kayal and Stephens. Pritchard can score and he could be the key to helping Hemed hit 20+
Not to mention we also have Murray now. It'll be a cracking signing if it happens.
I'd wager Stephens is off. News from the north east last night suggests that Knockaert to Newcastle is dead and Stephens is the only other player I can think of as likely to go.
