Right to sell Barnes? Yes, IMHO. Right to turn down Sunderland's derisory offers for Bridcutt and Buckley, yes again. BASED ON WHAT WE KNOW AT THIS STAGE.
So, from this, can I assume I am being compared (by you alone) to Mr Burns? Ridiculous. He/she is a totally separate poster! I can't even...
TB - are you unable to answer my questions re your post (now extended):
"I've said several times that the posting style is very similar. He was wrong about Barnes too."
I would be very interested to hear who you are 'accusing'.
At the moment, your silence is very telling.
Well, I could have safely predicted most of the top 6 to 10 of the Championship with the exception of Burnley. Parachute payments are significant, but so are other factors, such as attendances.
Gus had a generous budget. He did well with it. So what? Who would expect Burnley to be above QPR in the table at this stage? The league table is not based on financial clout. Oh, and Gus' repeated comments (moans actually) were ungrateful in the extreme.
Thank you Acker79. Interestingly, MM was the ONLY manager that kept us in the Championship in the Withdean years. This was a great achievement, and should not go unrecognised. Coppell would have kept us up IMHO had he not been burdened by Tinselhead's appalling start to the season. Coppell -...
Fair enough. Whilst largely agreeing with S's post, I have to say that 'handed on a plate' is a bit strong. I will say Gus was given fantastic backing by Tony and the board tho'.
Who said it was handed to him on a plate. Certainly not me.
Who said any manager could have got us up. Again, not me (I even mentioned a manager who couldn't!).
Well, I'm not going to trawl through the records of managerial achievements, but there are plenty of managers who have turned teams around from being relegation fodder to promoted.
Hmmm. Don't disagree about the style Gus brought us, but you may want to reflect on how many times we got promoted to the Championship whilst at Withdean, with much less financial clout, and different managers. There are PLENTY of managers who would have got us up the year we made it under Gus...
Not really. With the backing Gus got, the manager would have to be pretty poor to fail to get us up, i.e. of a level similar to Hinshelwood. And, yes, Gus IS a good manager.
