I'll keep an eye out for anything noteworthy over the off season and put it in the 2023 thread - but I'm expecting the aero testing restrictions will peg Red Bull back. There's a few options for generating a far more competitive (for WDC / WCC) season in 2023: 1. Red Bull aero testing...

Ha - take it everyone found the Abu Dhabi race a bit boring then? Have to say I enjoyed seeing Red Bull miss out on the 1-2 in the WDC standings. Anyway ... I've gone early and started the 2023 thread: https://www.northstandchat.com/threads/f1-2023.397910/

The Hulk now officially confirmed at Haas for next season. Haas confirmed they did have an interest in Ricciardo early on, but a combination of Ricciardo not responding and his continued decline for McLaren meant their decision was solely between Hulk and Mick. Hot rumour now is that Ricciardo...

Looks like the 2023 grid is now finalised. Hot rumour doing the rounds today is that Haas have signed Hulkenberg, which fills the final seat. Announcement to be made Wednesday. Grid will be: Red Bull Verstappen Perez (Reserve: Rumoured it could be Ricciardo) Ferrari Leclerc Sainz (Reserve...

The rumour is that Perez admitted as much to the team after the weekend. But that is very much rumour and completely unsubstantiated - could easily have been planted by someone from Verstappen's camp given they were absolutely livid after the Monaco race. On a more factual side of things...

Red Bull had massive issues with tyre degradation this weekend. In particular in cooler track conditions, they were just eating the tyres and had no performance. Apparently it was the same for them at Brazil last year, they were super sensitive to track temps and performance levels changed...

Absolutely brilliant for Russell. Initially it was all made very easy for him with Verstappen getting all gung-ho on Hamilton, then he handled the late safety car restart perfectly to keep Hamilton behind. That'll be the first of many, I think, as long as Mercedes can give him a car capable of...

Apparently the Brazil grid boxes were painted smaller than normal. Few drivers looked to be out of position as a result but were deemed OK after checks confirmed the boxes were too narrow. Also some signs Max might not be favourite tomorrow. Apparently had high degradation on the mediums...

There aren't that many F1-standard wind tunnels. And they're mostly owned by other F1 teams or Le Mans teams. Or big businesses who won't want to be associated with cheating. The penalty will stick. Where it gets a bit debatable is running the wind tunnels / CFD systems (both of those have been...

A lot to untangle with this one. As much as I've grown to really dislike Red Bull and their "win at all costs by pushing the boundaries to the limits" approach, from what I've read I think they're eating a fine and aero testing penalty that they might have been able to get out of in court. Now...

I think a large part of the problem is to do with the FIA not appointing permanent stewards coupled with some of the rules being open to subjective interpretation / discretion of the stewards. If you keep changing the stewards, you're going to get different subjective opinions on rules...

Should be announced ahead of the first practice session - so we'll know by early evening tonight. As it's an ABA, the rules stipulate that the FIA *must* reveal details about the breach and the punishment. Red Bull will no doubt issue some counter-claims (Verstappen already has maintained the...

Appears that Red Bull have agreed to an "Accepted Breach Agreement" with the FIA to be announced tomorrow. Rumour is a fine and reduction in wind tunnel time next season.

Ahhh, found the source of the Williams / Porsche rumour. It's Ziggo Sport ... who don't have a great track record on being correct on these types of stories. Edit: which explains why it's all over Twitter, but *not* in the mainstream F1 press yet. Can bet the mainstream press are busy trying to...

I missed that one - I think because the sort of deal Porsche wants (majority ownership) had been ruled out by Williams during talks with Audi. So either Dorilton have had a change of heart and are now willing to relinquish control, or Porsche have and are willing to buy in as a minority owner.

Great race, really enjoyed it thanks to Red Bull's blown pit stop. But even without that, there was plenty of action behind the leaders to keep us entertained. Was great to see the cars able to follow so close through the sector 1 sweepers. Some of Vettel's overtakes in his charge in the latter...

Need to see the detail on this one. Red Bull saying they spent less than cap, FIA saying they spent more. I have a feeling this is all going to hinge on differing interpretations of specific parts of the cost cap rules, and there's no guarantee the FIA wins that. As has been shown so many times...

Or (more likely) they've finally told the teams what their outcomes are and a team (or teams) found to be in breach has challenged that and they need to do more work.

It's expensive, and doing it from scratch is a several-years exercise. Audi already have their new engine for 2026 underway (as do the existing 4 suppliers), and from what I've read the absolute latest to get started on a 2026 unit would have been the start of this year. So we're talking a...

Neither did I ... but I did know that Porsche was very keen on entering F1 as a separate entity and not just re-badging an Audi unit. Happy to re-badge an evolved Honda unit, but not an Audi that's based on an original Porsche design (unless that rumour isn't true).
