Some simple, yet challenging, mental maths tells me I need a new pair. Are Asics okay or have any dramatic problems I should be aware of before I buy another pair...?

Went out for my usual 5k but something was amiss; I was short of breath the whole time and at one point had a sharp pain in what felt like my left lung that I guess must be muscular. After stopping and starting I ran it off eventually but never really got going. One of those days I guess ???
Ah I'm far too casual to run an actual race I think so I won't have any 'official' PBs. Relatively new to running, tried to run 10k this weekend but was totally knackered by 9 and had to stop.
nice! According to my running app on my phone I ran a 5k PB of 24: 24 two weeks ago and ever since I haven't got anywhere near! 27-28 since. Makes you wonder what could have changed?
This might be a good place to ask about shin splints. At uni I would run 2-3 times a week for about 6-7km in half an hour on a treadmill and recover quite quickly.
