To say the license fee is not value for money is laughable.
I wonder how many people who believe that listened to bbc radio on their way to work, or accessed bbc.co.uk at some point today?
Anyone who says the license fee isnt worth it, is really saying they enjoy BBC services, but want them...
Where Swansman’s argument falls down is the BBC’s reliance on Charter renewal. Impartiality is central to the conditions of the Charter. The BBC would not exist in its current form (licence fee-funded) without the Charter.
So the BBC is not in a position to turn a blind eye impartiality even if...
Just a cursory glance through Twitter would do it.
Tbf to the BBC impartiality has never been easy to police, and with social media it’s even more difficult.
They can have their rules but this shows they can’t control their stars, many of whom aren’t even staff.
They’re stuck now, with the world...
The BBC changed its impartiality rules applied to in 2020, effectively to cover high profile freelancers like Lineker.
Lineker’s tweet falls foul of this.
Although the BBC’s pick and choose application of its own rules (see your Alan Sugar tweet) would undermine them if this went further.
The BBC‘s views on impartiality, and how this affects those it pays, seem to have passed you by. One could argue they are not clear enough, or applied very well. But they do exist and have done for a very long time .
So maybe we will all get fired if we speak out against the government one day...
Yeah and yeah
This is from bbc guidelines.
"There are also others who are not journalists or involved in factual programming who nevertheless have an additional responsibility to the BBC because of their profile on the BBC. We expect these individuals to avoid taking sides on party political...
The bbc didn’t use that inflammatory word but fair enough it amounts to suspension. Where did sacked come from though? You might have the exclusive there.
But anyway…I value free speech but this isn’t a simple free speech argument.
His employees feel he has responsibilities as a face of the...
He’s a high profile face of the bbc . And is very, very well remunerated for the privilege . I don’t necessarily agree with the bbc’s position but I don’t think it’s asking too much for Lineker to either stop taking the money or suck it up.
Get rid of him.
Regardless of his politicising he’s too expensive for a publically-funded organisation.
People watch motd for the football not the presenters.
The bbc could put an autocue infront of any number of talented presenters, who would do the job and cost a lot less.
