Indeed. In all the time he was using the side sonar to search up to the reeds but not in them, did it not occur to him that this might not be a complete and thorough search? That it might have warranted a word with the police officer in charge, e.g. 'When you say search the river, are you...

    [News] Missing Lancashire woman

'Nicola Bulley: Why can it take so long to find bodies?' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-64712383 Key takeaways from the article: 1. She was found in reeds, in an area of the river the diving company had searched, using its sonar. 2. The owner of the diving company says 'Sonar would never be...

This case has touched us all.

It's been a journey of discovery. Mostly by other northerners about my wife's and my most personal and private stuff.

I don't know the exact location, other than it is in the village.

Absolutely. That's a different thing entirely, and I'm not advocating tolerance of that at all.

A word about the role of social media in this case. My wife is a northerner, and comes from Accrington (Stanley). But she is now an honorary southerner, in that she can see the pros and cons of 'northernism'. Northernism has been discussed in the form of well, Burnley on here, which...

Think downstream. Not upstream. Things can only go upstream if the river is tidal. There is a weir in the village (downstream of where she disappeared), which is the defining point. Downstream of the weir, the river is tidal. Upstream of it, it is not tidal. So if she went into the river...

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but would/could sonar have missed the body if it was at the bottom, perhaps partially covered in silt? Sonar may find a 2 foot fish in 300 feet of water, but does it find them if they are hiding motionless on the bottom of a 10 foot river?

The caveat here is 'Within the search area'. Obviously he wouldn't have made any such claim about a stretch of river that he didn't search.

    [News] Missing Lancashire woman

Agreed. As I understand it, we don't even know the stretch of river that was searched (AFAIK, this has never been published), or whether the location the body was found, was within the search area. Or whether either or both of those are actually relevant...

    [News] Missing Lancashire woman

When this is all over, or when a suitable period of time has gone by to allow the case to be put on the back burner, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a review of the law, to allow the police a chance to do their job, and not be submerged by an avalanche of social media chatter. This can't...

A word about the police handling of this case. The police have come in for a fair amount of criticism, no doubt some of which we are not aware of. The media, watchdogs, random media commentators, senior police officers, politicians national and local, will all have questions and concerns...

My point wasn't about a thumbs up. It was about using a 'Given', i.e. effectively using a quote from the family (and getting that quote wrong) to justify deleting the thread, and then three other people approving of that post, also presumably without checking what the family were actually...

This. 100%. This is the second time this morning where we have someone who has misread, misinterpreted or misunderstood events. Mo Gosfield declared above 'From the earliest moments of the case they declared it a cut and dry situation'. I certainly don't recall the police ever making such a...

What the family are reported to have asked for, is that the 'appalling speculation surrounding her private life needs to stop.' - BBC. Without reading the whole thread again, I don't recall any speculation, appalling or otherwise, on here, regarding her private life.

By coincidence, I was having lunch beside the Arun today, and I commented on the high flow rate of the outgoing tide. The Arun has the second highest flow rate in the country (the Severn is the highest). Cue a long conversation about the missing woman. There is the precedent of the young lad 45...
