Didn’t know he was writing a book, I was just saying he got his business name and services in the limelight - nothing wrong with that when doing pro bono, but agree with you, his statements were unhelpful, and fueled the speculation.
My memory of those early Grace novels was that he struggled to come to terms with the disappearance of his wife, and it gave him comfort talking to a medium. I got the impression he didn’t really believe in it, but he knew it sort of helped him so that’s why he went and it helped clarify his...
Rivers are complex things, they’re not bathtub shaped, they have undercrofts, things to be snagged on, pinned under, caught up in. It could be something else breaks loose, changes the dynamic and something moves again.
Unkind guessing - he continued to brief to the press after he’d finished his search, undermining the police and fueled the public speculation she couldn’t be in the river - he stated that with authority and certainty. Had he kept his opinions between him, the police and the family I might agree...
There has been a definite narrative that the police just turned up, didn’t really bother thinking too much about it and lazily concluded she must have gone in the river. Sadly due to the circus that has developed and the various time wasting leads and theories they’ve had to investigate, they...
They do in fiction, in reality it’s more like 25-30% leave a note or any indication they were feeling suicidal. You can do a quick search and that is consistent through different countries too.
I lost a close friend, had ayoung family, dropped them off one day, never returned, found having...
In the middle of a work call that no one heard or saw her react or she was unable to raise any kind of alarm with them, no barking or reaction from the dog, no signs of a struggle at all in the vacinity or sign a body has been in anyway dragged or forced, and despite being fairly busy no...
Are they? Many suicides the family and friends had no idea the person was in that bad a state, no notes or messages are left. A parent leaves home seemingly normally and doesn’t return. There is a permanent chaplaincy at Beachy Head because often it is a spur of the moment thing, that someone...
Someone went in pretty much the same spot of river and wasn’t found for 2 months, eventually turning up 7 miles away. Professional divers don’t tend to dive very shallow water.
Think the reason they knew she was missing is the dog was found on the road, dry and fine. The harness and lead were left on the bench with her phone still connected to her work teams meeting call.
I think broadcasters and news outlets have so much info. now on click throughs and what people are viewing / interested in that algorithms point them toward what news is going to be repeated and what isn't. Both of those cases you mention were 15 years ago, Twitter had barely even started...
I did post a link earlier that someone went in near the same spot at the same time of year 40 years ago and they didn’t find them for 2 months with the body eventually found 7miles down stream.
Sadly I think @LennyTee above is probably right, and the tragedy may well be that she has set her phone down, removed the dog's harness setting it free and whatever has happened has happened of her own accord with entering the river as the most likely scenario it seems.
Same stretch of river, 45 years ago, another tragedy where the body wasn't found for 2 months.
I just cannot see why if anything sinister happened why the harness was taken off the dog, and the phone left on the bench still connected. I think the police working hypothesis is still the most...
The harness and lead for the dog were found on the bench with the phone. Dog owners don't need to take the harness off to let the dog off lead, just unclip the lead. I think it's a key bit of info. as to why they've ruled out 3rd party involvement.
