The loan route to the first team is right for some - White and Sanchez, for example - while for others, like Hinshelwood and Ferguson, the route is direct from the U21s to the first team. Although we recognise they got it badly wrong with Connolly (he should have gone on loan long before he...

A very small number, I should imagine! Not many more, if any, in January either. However, in retrospect, and with hindsight, and with how his season has gone since January, a clairvoyant on the coaching staff may have been useful to have in January! Still, that moment has passed, and even...

In hindsight a half season loan starting in January might have been a good idea, but I doubt the suggestion would have been anything but widely poo-pooed on here!

Yes, there is speculation and there is speculation. This is pure speculation! I know clubs may dangle hugely lucrative contracts in front of him (and with suitable inducements to his agent!) but 21 or 22 would be the ideal age for him to get that mega-move. I wonder if they've reached the same...

Sadly, Leyton Orient couldn't afford him. Chelsea couldn't sell him, because no-one else would be foolish enough to match the wages. He'd just go to seed, not playing much, and planning how to spend £50M over the next few years.

He will get his big move - ideally career-wise when he's 21 or 22, having honed his trade with us. That would be the common sense route for him (and good for us too) - will common sense for once over-ride the £10M a year (£200K a week) NOW option? I hope so - but sadly I'm not going to indulge...

Four substitutions at half time? I don't think so!

Maybe he's considered to be behind the club's record signing in the pecking order? Shame if he is, IMHO.

I pay the same - but without Sky/BT Sports. I'm leaving as soon as I can get my freeview smart tele installed!

No firestick. :( Bloody Virgin media only showing the Netherlands and Gibraltar playing defence vs. attack, as if that's any sort of consolation!

Good luck to him - and to Brighton former young player Jayson Molumbey, who also starts.

Actually, if you think about it, for £80-£100M that wouldn't be a bad deal. If he keeps developing and improving we're unlikely to be able to hang on to him for much more than a couple of seasons anyway - and if his career takes a nosedive (unlikely, but always a remote possibillty) we trouser...

Yes, but would, say, Forest Green be willing then to take Maguire on loan?

It would have been a perfectly valid strategy. If he'd come back to us next season having scored 30 goals in League1, he and we would be in a very good place. As it happens, keeping him here and playing him has also worked out very beneficially. So, everybody happy then, eh? No complaints I hope.
