We should have new systems, but many in here are saying that the unions should have no input into the implementation at all, this is a great example of how their help with implementing the system is helpful. The may 2018 timetable was a great example of companies and government forcing through...

The suggestion would also take staff off trains, there would be no one to help anyone off the train without literally decades and decades of new technology and rebuild of the majority of infrastructure.

It can be done without raising fares, but we need to put a sledgehammer to the upper parts of the organisational structures. Needs some reform but not the way the government wants to.

Definitely, despite what people on here think, working for the railways is a very skilled profession, just giving people shite terms and getting under qualified agency workers to replace 50 years of knowledge, would make the railways so much worse.

Here, here, they’re being driven into the ground in desperation to make as much profit as possible. We need a good service and these reforms the government want to do won’t do as such. The franchise system is an absolute mess, it needs a sledgehammer to it, then we fix things and build a...

That would be completely wrong, that isn't based on anything, new technology and systems have been coming in all the time.

I agree to a certain extent, a public service shouldn’t be reliant on overtime, but there isn’t enough staff to cover the basic service without overtime, if they want to start covering Sundays on the roster, they need to recruit a lot more staff, something they are reluctant to do.

Well considering their members use the software and technology, shouldn’t they be the ones that decide whether it works in practice? Or should we just use unworkable software, because it costs less but is inefficient or has large on the ground caveats which lessen operation, the railways is a...

Interesting you chose to completely ignore the new railway technology I used as an example, that has been brought in with Union assist, and then just said the same thing again based on no information.

I think as a society we will all benefit from a solution in this strike, but I do accept your point that a lot of people are inconvenienced. I’m not in the view that anyone finding a way around without using the railway is strike breaking (like some Lewes supporting moron on twitter who claimed...

I think we do agree that it needs investment, it does need to be renationalised in some form, but not under the Tories as they won’t invest.

I don’t think it’s fair to say they just think you are collateral damage, the line at the beginning is your problem. The strikes on the 24th, 26th and 27th, don’t really affect service. Most of the strikes are in weekdays, 13th, 14th and 16th are weekdays and 3rd, 4th and 6th are weekdays...

Essentially calling off engineering works is a lot more disruptive than you think, there’s a whole refurbishment of Victoria signalling in this period, that’ll be postponed. Monday to Friday isn’t the busiest days of the week for the railways now, Saturday is. Anyway they are targeting these...

I think these strikes are designed to be as disruptive as possible, to force the government into action, I think they've got 80% of the way there by forcing the government around the table, and talks are carrying on all week. I think we are near the end, but it’ll be a grind to get there, but if...

Because the Union aren’t resistant to change, not quite sure what you are aiming at. Every new piece of technology that has come in recently has been done is done in tandem with the Union. ATO in the core section of the Thameslink has been done massively with the help of Union approval. New...

But this is also my point, somehow money has to get into people’s hands. For example with a real terms pay cut, I spend less at small businesses, I used to get a coffee on the way to work, and when I’d watch the England game I’d have got 6 pints not 3, but if prices go up without a pay rise in...

I do have a lot of sympathy with your situation, I don’t have a car either so trains are my only option, I think it has to come to a head soon, as this level of operation just isn’t sustainable. It’s shit for everyone, it makes away games a slog for me personally when it’s in a car (I know this...

Maybe the non public sector employees should unionise then and get a good pay deal

I think if people really had a look inside the industry right now, they would see that its in a sorry state even without strikes. There needs to be investment in the system for it to work.
