    Well actually if the OP wants a sporty car then an MX5 is by far the best bet. £7,000 will get a good one and if its been looked after with a full service history, it will go on forever. They are small, easy to park and cheap to run, so fits my criteria too...

    My advice is buy the newest car you can afford to have. Think about size and how far you'll drive. Ask your friends what cars they have, are they happy, is it more expensive, or cheaper than expected to run? Has anything gone wrong and would they buy the same car again. I love my Fiat panda...
