The new Daniel Avery is out today....one first listen it is rather good and I just had confirmation my double vinyl is on its way. It also contains his tribute to the late, the great, Andrew Wetherall which he released a few years ago...
I'm not convinved the last two albums will work in stadiums either. But I agree, they are a superb live act....even when the German venue is packed out with Brits bellowing out every single lyric wonderfully out of tune :lolol:
This album is dividing Tubthumper Towers. I like it but it took a few listens.
As an aside, they seem to have become a huge live act over the past few years. Their UK stadium tour sold out quickly...all 15 or so stadiums. And across europe and the US they have moved up into the huge arenas and...
I have noticed a lot of albums are shorter these days, clocking in at 40 mins or less. I wonder if this is due to the vinyl renaissance i.e. 20 minutes per side is the optimal for sound quality?
I remember reading an interview where they were talking about some really early shows. One gig had a small crowd who mainly were at the bar. At the end of one song, which was met with silence, and after a pause, someone shouted out “shut the f@ck up”. Made me chuckle.
Gilla Band, I'm looking forward to listening to their new long player. Saw them live a while back, under their previous name; quite an experience :lolol:
I listened whilst doing some work this afternoon but at 3 hours plus it will need some dedication to keep fully focused. It’s very enjoyable and it’s nice to have some new music from him.
Bad luck for my friend as she has Covid but good luck me for me as I now have one of her tickets.
As a follow up, just got back from Nils Frahm. I have to say that was quite special. There’s no stage in the venue, he played on the floor and we sat around him.
