The problem they have is they have invested massively in young talent, originally based around having a manager (Graham Potter) who has a reputation of developing young talent into better players.
What they have now is a higher profile manager with no noted track record of improving...
Caicedo was surely recruited to cover for losing Bissouma. We clearly don't have a player waiting who's the same level as Cucurella, but who is? That's why he's worth 62m.
I'm sure we'll find some more players before the window closes, other than Colwill who can cover some aspects of...
We may still be 'under the radar' during the actual playing season, but when it comes to pre season and transfer dealing we're very visibly punching above our weight.
And long may it continue.
The mistake many many people seem to be making is thinking that any 'price' quoted for Cucurella comes from the Albion. The only statement I think we've made is to say that Cucurella is a more valuable asset than Ben White, so the price would need to be in excess of what we got for him, or words...
But what the Leeds interest did was establish a baseline value for Ben White that we didn't accept, which then had the knock on effect of making Arsenal START at 40+ Million. Once Arsenal paid 50m for White, whether the likes of City want to accept it, this set a definite marker for the level...
Our recruitment model is designed for this to happen, but you are right, someone of Cucurella's ability is hard to replace, like for like. But this money funds the next Caicedo, Bissouma or Lamptey maybe?
Without Cucurella our attacking style / patterns might need a tweak, perhaps focus on...
I understand that, but why is making a 30+ million profit on a player naïve? Surely that profit is exactly what we need to continue to build the squad / team?
