Would have liked him but at the expense of each contract renewal we go through, and each £15m+ signing also wanting £80k a week and ruining us financially... no thanks.
Not much point whining about Edouard. Would have been a good signing but we werent going to pay those wages. Sign him on £80k a week and every new player or contract renewal becomes more expensive for us. There's a reason we walked away.
Any striker we sign thats within budget is coming with a degree of risk. Unless we blow £40m+ on someone we're not going to get guaranteed goals, even then possibly not. Edouard, if we can get for say £15m, feels like a risk worth taking. And at 23 there's future sell on value.
We save our money and dont buy anyone until we find a player that feels like its worth the risk, but unfortunately all players within our budget are going to come with some level of risk.
The problem is that these days for a Premier league striker £2-5m doesnt even get you a punt, it would barely get you 1 leg of a punt. That sort of money gets you a young player who might one day possibly progress into being a first team player, if you're lucky, like we did with Zeqiri. If you...
Edouard would have made a lot of sense to me, but i'll trust Brian Owen if he categorically says we're not interested, and i guess the club must have good reason. Oh well. Still fancy us to sign a striker of some sort, the money was there for Gonzalez afterall.
Connolly should definitely be loaned out, he's last on the list of our current striker options.
& absolutely agree any player with no loyalty to us will obviously choose a West Ham/Arsenal/Leicester over any deal we offer, and its not an attitude problem for them to want that move, but its...
If we dont sign a striker and our main options next season turn out to be Maupay, a consistently fit Welbeck, a consistently fit Andone, and backed up by Tau/Zeqiri/Connolly then I wont see it as a disaster but it feels too much of a gamble to rely on Welbeck and Andone being fit the majority of...
Whether he'd be good in the Prem is anyones guess but from a business point of view it makes sense. He's 23 so would definitely have a re-sale value later down the line.. For £15m? Yes please.
