I remember getting very excited at the 100K we got for Paul Holsgrove in 98 and then £150K (I think) rising to a potential million as compo for Gareth Barry in the same season!
I saw the away game at Burnley in December 2018 (Saturday after beating Palace 3-1 with 10 men), and White was on the subs bench, so I probably saw him warming up and having a kick around with the other subs at half time. Can't imagine what Hughton was thinking including him in a Premier League...
I reckon most of us will have been out with women that are analogous to how Ben White is to Leeds fans. You know the ones that have men who they maybe once went on a crap date with or snogged when they were drunk and never looked at again but who still randomly send texts or try to call.
Kalvin Phillips? That is never going to happen, I'm afraid. Apart from him being genuinely Leeds though and through (unlike White), he's just been an integral part of the most successful England team in 5 years. If he goes anywhere, it's going to be for far more money than we could ever bid...
I doubt it'll have any effect on their delusion. They lost their shit when White himself did that interview when he got into the England squad and said 'I wasn't made last year' when asked about the effect of the season he had with Bielsa, concentrating more on his entire 10 years development...
That clip will genuinely wind a few Leeds fans up with the managers from his League 2 and League 1 loans saying what a special player he was before he'd even had a training session with Bielsa.
It’s a FIFA rule. Although from what I’ve read is not that clear whether it applies to clubs that a player has been loaned to or just clubs where a player was part of the academy prior to signing a professional contract, in which case it’d just be Stains that would get any ££.
Although the...
Utter bollocks.
We spotted the potential in him that Saints couldn’t at 16 and he progressed through our U18s and U23s for 3 seasons before progressive loans up through the leagues - his development under BHA has been perfect. As for this season, he’s clearly moved up another gear looking...
I agree. White has been excellent this season. Dunk and Webster are far stronger in he air, but White has been at least as good in other defensive aspects as those 2 and is a better all-round footballer.
Joking aside, my understanding from having read Articles 20&21 of FIFA’s transfer regs (training compensation and solidarity payments) are that they won’t receive a penny as he was already 21 by the time we loaned him to Leeds so they don’t count as a ‘training club’.
Only if you're incredibly needy.
The rest of us will be getting excited about all the players with flair names we've never actually heard of that we could be signing with £50m
Burnley offered 8-9m for Stephens in the end, which was a decent offer for a Championship midfielder in 2016. Trouble was that they didn’t get round to making that offer until the last 24 hours of the window when we’d have had no chance of replacing him.
I heard it by chance. He spoke about the influences on his rise to being a Premier League and now International player. Mainly speaking about his mum and also mentioned starting his senior career on loan at Newport. Not one mention of Leeds, which will no doubt wind them up.
I'm in a minority here, but I think it's the other way round. We actually played quite well in the games where Bissouma was suspended - Man U at home and Leeds away - and also in the second half v Wolves at home when he was subbed off. The one game that White missed we were shocking and lost...
You questioning the magic of Bielsa, who turned Ben White into the defender that won MOTM and had Leeds fans giddy with excitement in his first game just over 4 weeks after his loan deal was agreed?
That tackle was the complete opposite of naive in my opinion. There were literally seconds left on the clock and Chelsea would've had a clear run on goal if he hadn't tackled/fouled him. It was the type of yellow card that players take for the team all the time, and Chelsea didn't have time to...
I don't know. I think he may be far more important to us in a back three than we appreciate as non-expert fans. I don't claim to have any expertise at all, it's just that we went from a deserved clean sheet away at Chelsea (and could've won) on a Tuesday night with Ben White in the team to...
I keep reading on Leeds social media that his current value is based on the season he had at Leeds. Weird how none of these 40m+ offers were coming from the big clubs this time last year if that's the case.
