I don't think HMRC are quite the force to be reckoned with that they used to be. They used to be feared and ruthless and even pursued the totally innocent with over zealous determination. Now they hardly seem bothered about anything.

The perils of using sarcasm or irony on the printed page where it's harder to convey nuance. There'll always be those who will (or will want to) apply a totally literal interpretation of what you have said.
I was aware of this fiasco in the first lockdown. I know of two limited companies who were handed grants they didn't need or at least not for the amounts they were given. One of those companys was brighton based with no (official) employees. He was closed for the two and half months of lockdown...
