Where's the thumbs down button when you need it.
Solly has been defensively adept for many seasons now.
Hughton had him playing in a far more defensive role after promotion and he has improved in this area every season.
Can you really remember any big errors defensively from him over the last...
the ref gave a free kick against him for the moat shoulder to shoulderest of challenges.
the fact he flattened the opponent didn't change the fact it was a fair challenge.
top performance today.
Seriously, take a look at his game by game ratings on who scored or somewhere similar.
He has always been a very consistent performer. He has rarely (if ever) been given below 6 in a single game.
The perception of his poor form has been down to his versatility.
He has been asked to play just...
His form has improved since he has been playing as a wingback, which has coincided with no crowds.
The idea that crowds have a noticeable adverse affect on him is laughable.
Who scored judged him at 7.07 last season and 6.59 the season before that.
If he was regularly at 5.9 with crowds, then...
for loads of reasons.
My guess is that the least frequent use is to help Premier League footballers overcome their fear of 18 stone know-it-alls telling them they're shit.
I would say Solly is probably one of the least emotional players in the team.
He just about remembers to give a half...
I think that footballers who cannot perform when a crowd get on their backs - don't make it to the Premier League.
That's all.
We aren't some Primary school where we try and get the best out of everyone in the class.
He's been picked consistently by every manager we've had and despite what some...
Yeah agreed.
My point is that at times he could tear up Championship defences, but not nearly as well as Knocky did.
Knocky had boundless belief, confidence and skill, but it wasn't enough at this level.
I don't believe that Solly had more skill or pace than Knocky did.
No reason to expect...
No I haven't missed your point.
Both of the confidence tropes have been posted today.
I disagree with both.
My take on Solly is:
I think he is an exceptionally intelligent footballer who plays for the team.
He isn't AK trying to amaze people with his skills and tricks all the time.
He uses his...
aaaagggghhhhhh!! the confidence argument again!
He doesn't lack ****ing confidence.
He's not a shrinking violet who runs scared when the nasty men in the crowd shout at him.
He's a premier league footballer FFS!
Clickbait headline.
Really no idea why one of our most adaptable players would feel undermined by the club signing a player in the position he has made his own last season.
All managers he has played under have used him in multiple positions.
More of a threat to Dan Burn's game time than...
One of those where our valuation is likely to be much higher than any buying clubs.
I'm a big fan, but I doubt buying clubs would go higher than £15m
We couldn't replace him for that and don't currently have any back up in his position.
Anyone who still believes the old Lightweight/can't defend/no end product tropes. take 7 minutes out of your day to educate yourself properly.
Can't wait to see him back in action.
This is the most often quoted untruth about Solly.
It certainly was a weakness about 3 or 4 seasons ago and people who made their mind up about him back then, still trot it out as a fact.
The club worked with him to bulk him up and improve his strength.
No longer an issue at all.
He also receives little credit for scoring the goal that got us promoted.
Local lad scores the goal that takes us to the Premier league for the first time.
Some story.
Rarely gets a mention ( apart from by me. on these threads)
I have said it hundreds of times on here.
The problem with Solly is that he hasn't become the player we wanted him to become.
He is constantly measured against our expectations from 7 years ago.
Instead he has developed into a consistently good premier league, utility player and not the flair...
