Does it really matter though... if he had a release fee it would surely be close to the clubs valuation of the player, and if say Real Madrid comes along waving £40m surely the club would say "ok you can go, boy" with or without a release fee in his contract.

Yeah but before he got injured he was excellent. Played more as LB than LWB today and looked great. I dont see the problem. What part of his game makes him a bad LB?

Ehrrm he has played very well in the LB/LWB (not that different) role for a year now... where do you think he should be playing?

If he is willing to accept that, then no problem.

Career defining season for him. Good season and he might nail down the LWB spot fo rthe forseeable future, bad season and he might have to move on.
