It’s was my last free day for a few weeks so took myself to see a double whammy today. Honey Boy and Motherless Brooklyn. Both of which I’ve been looking forward to.
Honey Boy.
I’ve been a fan of LaBeouf for a while now, not that his film choices have been great but he’s licked himself up and...
Blue Story.
90 mins of teenagers punching one another and waving a very shiny gun around. Boring and nowhere near as important as it believes it is.
2/10
Doctor Sleep.
Wasn’t mad keen to see this as nothing is ever going to live up to The Shining but I was pleasantly surprised.
Some bits are pure Stephen King stupidity and reminded me of some of the lower budget tv series of his work but on the whole it’s good.
It’s long but rattles among well...
Zombieland: Double Tap
I loved the first one at the time. This one was nowhere near as good. It rolls along entertainingly enough, most jokes falling flat, some hitting home. Woody is fun. And there are some amusing set pieces but all a bit meh.
4/10
Ah cool. A much nicer cinema but I have one of those odeon limitless cards so I tend to go there 9/10 times. It’s a struggle at times to find good pictures to watch there.
The Peanut Butter Falcon.
Shia LaBeouf and Zack Gottsagan play a man on run form justice and a man on the run form a care home where his Down’s syndrome has him treated like a child/old person, respectively.
A simple story, beautifully told with some lovely homages to Twain.
Shia gives a...
We went to see Joker this afternoon.
Most will know what to expect and it’s no worse for that . It delivers a few ( very few) well tuned surprises too.
Not the total masterpiece it’s been hyped to be but yeah, it’s a very good take on the character and it’s refreshing to see Joker not being...
I’m afraid Trautman, the only man who could control Rambo, or indeed the franchise passed before the last Rambo was made.
Good plan for Joker. Enjoy. We are off to see it on Sunday. See if we can’t put a smile on our faces.
In an embarrassing bid to try and squeeze some value out of my Odeon Limitless membership I went and saw Rambo: Last Blood this evening.
A flimsy, wholly unnecessary, immature, and ridiculous end to the “saga”. It was awful.
The Joker next. I’m betting that’s gonna be better.
I bought one of those Odeon limitless memberships. What a waste of money, only about one film every three months I want to see. Might be good value for some but if you’re not into animated kids films or endless superhero nerd fodder, forget it. And it’s a year contract with The Harlands group...
Midsommar.
Unsettling folk horror flick from the director of the much praised (over praised, I think) Hereditary.
A group of American graduates are invited to their Swedish friend’s remote home village in rural Sweden to share in a festival held once every 90 years. The main character...
Agreed. Was awe inspiring on the big screen. What surprised me though was how great the more intimate scenes, the church scene etc came across on the big screen. I just got lost in it. Totally absorbed.
Mrs The Clamp and her Mother went to see it at Worthing Dome last week and thought it was brilliant. They’re not easily impressed and rarely visit the cinema but couldn’t sing it’s praises enough. I’m going to see it tomorrow on the strength of their review and I had zero interest before they...
