A stench by any other name is a stench, and no amount of deodorant sprayed on it can stop it being a stench. And a £5M bung to an already ridiculously rich and well paid person still comes out as a stench.
He is employed by the PL. He is not employed by PL clubs. If they are stupid enough to fork out £250K each, it's a gift. It is not a payment (remuneration) from his employer.
So let's get this straight then. This wasn't an idea suggested by Bruce Buck of Chelsea, who wasn't filmed going to a meeting at PL headquarters in company with Steve Parish, and from which David Gold emerged to announce that all clubs were in agreement with this wonderful idea and that anybody...
It appears to be a PL decision, endorsed by the clubs, which we (and therefore by implication, TB) has to pay. The cost has been levied, we pay. Barber should certainly have been one of the dissenting voices, and as far as day to day finances, I dare say TB delegates to PB (quite correctly) so...
Excellent rant, and I fully agree with you - but I'm not sure you can blame TB here. Wasn't it CEOs who met and voted on the motion? Even if PB had voted against (and it's a disgrace on the club that he didn't) once the motion was carried all 20 clubs have to pay up, whether or not TB (or for...
I don't know, but I think I've read somewhere that if a motion is put to the vote, it requires a 15 -5 majority to carry the vote - in which case every club would have to pay up.
If that is the case, our disgrace is not that we're paying it, but that we didn't vote against it.
Edit: just seen...
If 15 clubs voted for it, isn't the motion then carried so that the 5 clubs who did the right thing have to cough up anyway? If only we'd been classy enough to join the five (I believe a 14 - 6 majority wouldn't have been enough?)
He may have done a good job (?) but he's been well paid for doing it. £5M bonus is just obscene - I really hope the clubs tell Buck to get stuffed. Sadly, I expect they'll all fork out - rich boys must stick together, after all.
