In the 70's there were large signs by new bypasses 'A27 Folkstone to Honiton Trunk Road'.
In the 80's or 90's many large homes on the A27 in posh bits of Worthing were compulsorily bought up, and boarded up. Quietly sold to the public years later - that part seemed to get no publicity.
