If there was no transfer fees then all contracts would be only one or two years at the most. The only reason clubs put players on long term contracts is to stop them running contracts down and going for free.. Players would adapt very easily to shorter contracts. To be honest I don't even know...
The point I am trying to make is that all human beings should have the right not to be forced into a continuance of ''future service/subserviance''. They should have the right to withdraw their labour at any given point.
The Music Industry does have something similar but not quite the same...
I think I covered this in an earlier posts and I do concede there is a need to reserve contracts on both sides. It's the '' transfer fee '' to sell a player on that I take issue with

That's another bone of contention with me but due to the George Michael issue several years back Artists tend to have clauses drawn into their contracts these days where they don't get themselves tied up in such situations

You are correct we do still need the contracts...
Players often want to leave for many different reasons. Could be
1. They want to move t a different region or country
2. They are no longer getting a game because other players are signed after they sign to take their place in the team so they are no longer being allowed to do the job they...
Not all footballers are earning Millions of £s in the lower leagues and they are still tied to contracts they can't get out of without their employers approval. So NO it wasn't in jest
These things are nothing new and like the Bosman ruling which totally changed the Transfer Market 25 years ago, I have the feeling that in the next 5 years, the Transfer market will change dramatically again.
