Er... yes they do.
Anyway, so... not withstanding that your main justification for a Sompting / Worthing / Durrington / Salvington / Findon flyover is that they have one in Limassol...
... any chance of letting us know your thoughts on those above questions? Ta.
I could, but that - for me - is not the central issue. When things are constructed, there are always issues where things get worse before they get better. And it's the long-term goal of things being better than I'm interested in.
I have several questions for your ambitious scheme, but I'll limit it to the 'low-hanging fruit' ones...
1. Where does the eastbound traffic go? Is it on a lower tier?
2. If the westbound traffic is on the elevated section, where would the junctions be?
3. It will be ugly, and I don't suppose...
Depends what you refer to as 'prohibitive', and your example isn't the best.
As an example, it's a 21-24 minute train journey from Lancing to Brighton, making 5-7 stops en route. The 700 bus is around 40 minutes. Pretty much everyone in the village is within a walking distance of the station...
The original feeling locally was one of rampant NIMBYism - traffic, flooding, undesirables due to affordable housing etc. Then the legal arguments were made that - in line with the Local Plan - this site was earmarked for housing. Then IKEA came on board, and traffic, low-paid, unskilled jobs...
Quite. The issue of the A27 west of the Lancing roundabout is that it is no longer a trunk road.
Upgrades to six junctions are proposed - and they may help a bit, but won't resolve the main issues - namely that it is a suburban through route, with a speed limit of 40mph with turnings into...
Between them, I can't believe they can't concoct a plan whereby - for example - access comes from a northern exit on the proposed roundabout, which immediately turns to run parallel to the A27 until such time as it meets with the current road heading to the College.
It doesn't need to be a major road, or even a major junction. I'd imagine the SDNPA would allow an access road, to latch on to the current road, provided it didn't spoil the fabric of the area etc. Even a spur road off the roundabout ought to suffice - it's not as though it's a major traffic route.
By the sounds of things - and I admit I'm purely going on the report above - that the key issues seem to be IKEA's environmental considerations and access to Lancing College.
Not even the antis (and they include Lancing Parish Council and Tim Loughton) are mentioning the housing any more, as...
I can understand their point marginally. The proposed road layout will mean you can only access Coombes Road from the eastbound A27 carriage, rather than being able to do a right turn from the westbound. I'm sure the road layout can be tweaked slightly, or even if not, many road signs will be...
As a general rule, absolutely not.
However, some of the language locally has been bordering on the hysterical. I too have concerns about certain aspects of the plan - the flooding issue, for one. However, the developers know that, and are working on a solution - one which they believe they have...
