    Didn't it start with one jokey comment "The Beatles", obviously said ironically? I noticed over the years that music threads often get hijecked by the pro / anti Beatles camps. @HWT, I disapprove of what you say about the Beatles, but I will defend to the death on NSC your right to say it.

    Great post. Thanks for remembering Joy Division. The Beatles have to be taken in context of the early 60's (what mainstream music was about then), what they changed then, and then again and again through the decade. People who can't stand them often quote other "far more influential" 60's...

    I actually love them. But wasn't prepared to pay £90 per ticket for their O2 gigs a year or two back.

    100% agree. I've very diverse musical tastes and the Beatles were a bit before my musical time, but I recognise their innovative genius and sheer talent. I've been playing the Blue Album in my car; so many goose bumps tracks, their beautiful vocals and widely different arrangements.
