The Hollies are the ones who collect the royalty cheques on the song. Radiohead had to add The Hollies to the songwriting credits for 'Creep' which borrows heavily from 'Air That I Breathe'

I must confess, I find reading about these cult leaders morbidly fascinating. And you're probably right on the money with the reasons for Manson's lack of success. I do think he had talent, there's a few songs that I've heard that are pretty good. Trouble is that it is impossible to separate the...

Still think I'd have preferred to hang out with Dennis Wilson than Mike Love though!

Completely different genre but Sly Stone was from SF so this definitely qualifies and puts me in more familiar territory. This is the opening track to There's A Riot Going On. This is the sort of track that goes on forever and still finishes leaving you wanting more...

The music scene in LA and SF around then must have been very incestuous because the chap I posted about, Craig Smith, got involved with Manson as well. Charlie boy certainly had charm, that's for sure.

Yeah. The first song is pretty good but he does rather go off on one with some of the others. I know what you mean about sounding a bit 60s. The first track has a bit of Beatles Taxman about it.

Found the chap. His name was Craig Smith but recorded under a whole host of names. Considering he was completely out with the fairies when he recorded this (apparently playing all the instruments), the quality is bloody good, much better than Syd Barrett's drug-addled efforts. Give it a listen...

My musical knowledge of this genre is now at its limits with my last entry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMzaRwifC8o I'm trying to remember the name of the singer around this era who I read about a few years back and was feted as the next big thing but then got lost in the opium dens of...

A friend and I were discussing Dennis Wilson today as it happens and he reminded me of this tune, his favourite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BLyXRPl1aE

Great thread! Does Captain Beefheart count? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dq6fCOGyVJg Discovering videos of Old Grey Whistle Test sessions are without doubt one of my favourite Youtube holes to get lost in.
