How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

The fool hath spoken...... Walk a mile in my shoes....... Some people are dealt a bad hand not through their own "choice"..... All the choices available may be "bad" choices..... Something easy for you may be very hard for someone else and maybe v.v...... Life is about balance and you have...

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

Heard similar from many colleagues. A homeless person with mental health issues and substance misuse issues is both a very hard person to help and a very hard situation for them to get out of.

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

I was shocked by a recent trip to Belfast - lots of homeless youngsters in doorways in the evening, who looked more like fresh faced runaways than the career-homeless-beggars (awful way of describing it I know, but you know the ones I mean, totally fecked by years of substance misuse and not...

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

"Edit - I heard three other people tonight say No thanks btw!" "It's weird though, right?" I take it as "No. Thanks" rather than "no thanks" ?

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

No worries, NSC and all it's members is a superb forum imo. I am very rarely offended by anything on it, and often laughing out loud, occasionally frustrated though by the ripping into posts often quickly inputted, especially when on phones with too much autocorrect haha. I'm open to changing...

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

Fair enough, although after both acknowledging them and having a conversation, personally, I think it would be hard then just to walk away without giving money. There by the grace of god though and walk a mile in my shoes etc. Might well try that though, thanks for the insight.

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

This is interesting. After a conversation with them, do you then give them money?

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

Absolutely and your explanation is a clear and good one, although I'm still not convinced I agree with it. If I say sorry I want to be genuine. And I'm not sorry not to give them money (because I feel it won't help them). And i think people are saying sorry for not giving them money, they're...

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

Doesn't take long on NSC to get an arsey ridiculing put down response (to which I'm not offended btw but it is a shame). It was a genuine question. Basic grasp of English...... hah

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

Likewise, why would you even consider saying sorry?!!

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

Not a criticism but are you sorry though? (Which is why I can't say it). Don't know why this issue is bothering me tonight so much but just walked back from the city centre and was asked 7 times! In my limited experienced, and discussed at work with a colleague who spent 20 years living in...

How do you say no to Brighton beggars?

Christ, they're everywhere in our city. When asked for money I meet eye contact, smile but shake my head. I'm uncomfortable saying "no thanks" as they aren't offering anything and it seems trite but I also want to acknowledge their existence and not blank them. But I won't give them money...
