As I said before, it was a fun film that I got enjoyment from, but I found his performance to be really weak without the mask. Maybe it didn't help that they nurfed his Force abilities once he took it off and once he came up against Finn and Rey...
I just thought he was nuts. They may explain it in later films as something different mind.
And I'm with you on the lack of mystique. I was gripped by him until he took his mask off - it killed the second half of the buzz film for me as I just couldn't take him seriously.
It was a fun film, but it wasn't a great film. I do think how it's received historically will depend largely on the follow up films - if they're good then it'll be seen as a good starting point that introduced some interesting characters; if the follow ups are poor, it'll feel like a missed...
