We are. In the spending league that is.

Derby and Fulham bid for Dunk [+ Newcastle now interested]

Ha ! I'm just arguing that we haven't sold em. I didn't know it was because it was only if they were as good as Luke Shaw we would sell em. In which case i suppose they aren't and thus we haven't.

Gotcha. So its now [we sell] "most of our good young players but only those who've shown "top level consistency" -and all the young players currently in the first team squad such as Ince, KLL, Dunk, March, Walton, JFC, March haven't done that despite playing 200+ times for the club and for...

Derby and Fulham bid for Dunk [+ Newcastle now interested]

JFC, Ince and Dunk have all played for the Albion regularly for 2 or 3 years and have nearly 200+ appearances in total and are all still in their early 20s. Two of them are u21 England Internationals. We didn't sell them (or try to sell them) in Jan 2014, last summer, last January and we...

Derby and Fulham bid for Dunk [+ Newcastle now interested]

Ha! Just a turn of phrase. FWIW I don't think we will sell Lewis Dunk this summer. He's unlikely to attract firm Premier League interest at a price where it would make sense to sell. And I don't think we would sell (and i can't foresee him wanting to go) to a Champ Club. But as for worrying...

Derby and Fulham bid for Dunk [+ Newcastle now interested]

Yes. Agreed. We've sold some players. Some of these were young, and good. Some of these are now having impressive careers. A tiny few have played in the Premier League. But you said "just about every good young player" has been sold. They haven't. Unless you think March, Walton, Ince, Lua Lua...

Apart from Dunk, March, Lua Lua, JFC, Rea, Walton, and Ince* All of whom are on extended contracts , most of which they've signed in the last 6 months and are all "good young players" on anyones definition even if some on here think they're bobbins. . *3 u21 England Internationals, 1 Eng u20...

Sorry. That was my very poor attempt at being slightly amusing.

Agreed. More explanation/nuance required. We are outspent by some clubs each year . Obviously we don't have the highest wage bill in the division. These are largely clubs with parachute payments of course. So I should have said It's a myth that we don't invest heavily in the playing side...

In 12/13 we were 8th according to the guardian. Not halfway according to Gus (ie:12th) According to Bloom our budget has gone up since then .the accounts showed an increase for 13/14 and the accounts for 14/15 are published early in 2016. It's a myth to think we are outspent in this division.

Derby and Fulham bid for Dunk [+ Newcastle now interested]

Agreed but there is a view in here that we've cut corners or spent less. Bloom insists otherwise and given that the accounts are due to be published then I'm assuming we have no reason to doubt it. That's quite a skill by the way. Pouring water out of a boot !!

Tighten ? Sorry confused again . Bloom didn't reduce his spending on the playing budget. He increased it (according to him). That's a loosening of the "purse strings" ? Yes ?
  13. chaileyjem

Derby and Fulham bid for Dunk [+ Newcastle now interested]

Gotcha. So in your view we in fact did loosen the purse strings and increased spending after all but you think Bloom should have loosened them even more.

But we haven't tightened the purse strings. We spent more on our playing budget in 2014/15 than in any other year in the clubs history. Why do you think we have ?

Of course and thats fair enough. I'm with you on that and others that put forward that view. Clearly the squad either isn't as good or repeated managers can't get it to perform but its not up there with that of 12/13 or 13/14. However there is an oft repeated view that i'm rather tedious in...

Derby and Fulham bid for Dunk [+ Newcastle now interested]

We did. Bloom said last September, i've quoted him on here many times, that not all of the Ulloa/Bridcutt money went directly back into fees for players. It also covered off ongoing losses. (these are of course partly caused by having such a large wage bill for our squad). We spend millions...

We spent not far off that on players fees last summer. We spent (about) 4x that on players wages.

Of course they do. We're not that different. And it takes one to spot one :) But NSC is rare in having such a diverse range of subjects, is really well run with great moderation/care, provides fantastic support for those in need, knows when/how to take the piss out of itself, is nearly always...
